Connor Leader is the only member of the boy’s swim team at Newcastle High School, but that does not slow him down. We caught up with Connor to talk about the upcoming season, which is his last at NHS.
VYPE: Connor, you’re a senior this year so what events do you plan on competing in this season?
Connor Leader: I will most likely do the 200 IM and 100 butterfly.
VYPE: When did you start swimming competitively?
CL: I started swimming competitively when I was five.
VYPE: Did you have a former teammate who inspired or pushed you?
CL: JD Thumann because he is faster than me and always pushed me in practice to get me better.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher at school and what’s been your favorite class?
CL: My favorite teacher is Mr. Heatly for my aviation classes during my sophomore and junior year.
VYPE: What about your club team? What do you like most about that team and your teammates?
CL: For my club team I just like the jokes and how good of friends everyone is.
VYPE: What are your plans for life after high school?
CL: I am planning on swimming in college and studying a business degree.
VYPE: How do you enjoy spending your free time?
CL: I like to spend my free time relaxing, playing video games, time with my family, and getting to see my girlfriend.
VYPE: What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?
CL: Best advice I’ve ever been given is from Ben Hayes. He would always help me with swimming and made sure I pushed myself to my limits.
