Volleyball may be a fall sport for high schools in Oklahoma, but the spring marks the start of club season for players like Newcastle High School’s Amber Ellis.
Representing her school in competition is something Ellis loves to do. Ellis is a Racer through and through.
“I cherish the opportunity to play in front of the community and appreciate the support from the student athletes,” Ellis said. “I love the competitive spirit of my teammates, and we constantly push each other to improve every day. We have an amazing group of girls who get along really well, and I truly enjoy being around them.”
Showcasing her talents on the court, this season Ellis continued to improve in every aspect of the game.
“Over the past year, I focused on enhancing my offensive presence while setting in the front row. Throughout the season, I gained more confidence in attacking the second touch, resulting in more kills for both myself and my hitters,” said Ellis.
Being inspired and playing hard is something Ellis is known for. That inspiration comes from someone at home.
“My mom is my greatest inspiration. She motivates me to reach my goals and consistently pushes me to be my best every day. Her unwavering support and encouragement have shaped who I am today, and I strive to make her proud in everything I do. Her strength, resilience, and love are the driving forces behind my success and happiness,” said Ellis.
Ellis has plenty of people to thank for helping her achieve her goals.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank my coach, Hannah Andrews, and all my teammates from last season! With 586 assists last season, I only need 133 more to reach 1,000 assists next season, and I couldn’t have done it without the support of this incredible program. A special shoutout to my outside hitter, Kacie Townsend, who achieved her 1,000th kill last season, and to our freshman middle, Brookelyn Dillon, who stepped up after an early injury,” said Ellis.
After graduation, Ellis plans to attend a university known for its strong volleyball team, major in a science-related field, and ultimately pursue a career as a Pediatrician.
