Noah Nance – Newcastle
Newcastle sophomore Noah Nance picked up the game of soccer when he was in second grade. One of his family members is a soccer coach and got him to give it a try.
“From then on my love for the game grew,” said Nance.
He now plays center attacking midfielder for the Racers soccer team and enjoys getting to play alongside some of his best friends.
“I love being with my team and competing with my friends,” he said. “We are like a family, we are a really close group of guys. Soccer is a growing program here in Newcastle.”
Nance says that people around him – specifically his teammates, coaches, and parents – are also what motivates him to be the best he can be on and off the field.
“I try to give it all to my teammates because they put a lot of work in and I don’t want to let them down,” he said. “My coaches because they expect a lot out of me. My parents because they spend a lot of time and work for this team and me personally. They have pushed me to be the best I can and they have instilled an amazing work ethic in me and I couldn’t tell them thank you enough.”
Although the Racers fell short of playoffs this season, Nance still acknowledges the progress they have made as a team.
“The season started off great, then we hit a rough patch and we ended up 7-7 at the end of the season,” he said. “We were one spot away from the playoffs. We improved from last season as we finished our season in 2018 2-10. I would say we have greatly improved.”
Nance is a standout in the classroom as well as on the field, currently maintaining a 4.34 GPA and is top of his class. He is also a member of National Honor Society and plays club soccer. After high school he plans to continue playing soccer in college and beyond.
